On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, Boxelder Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center celebrated the anniversary of the creation of Job Corps with a day full of events.
After a meeting of our Community Relations Council, special guests joined student representatives and staff at a dedication of the Center’s recently renovated Dining Hall. This project, which began in early 2011, used green construction techniques and the skill of current students to transform the dining facility into an energy efficient and remodeled space. More than 100 students currently enrolled in the Center’s many construction vocation programs helped with the remodel, including Carpentry, Painting, Facility Maintenance, Electrical and Bricklaying. “This facility will serve as an example of the quality work our students and graduates are capable of,” said Mike Deveraux, Center Director.
Following the Ribbon-Cutting and Dedication of the new dining facility, the Center conducted a graduation ceremony for sixteen new graduates of the program. Joining in the celebration were friends and family of the graduates, as well as community members and supporters of Job Corps. Dennis Jaeger, Deputy Supervisor of the Black Hills National Forest provided a keynote address, congratulating the graduates on their success. A special audio presentation was also presented by U.S. Senator John Thune, who congratulated the graduates, challenged them to pursue their own success and thanked the Boxelder Job Corps for all of its hard work in shaping the lives of young people.
