LEGISTATIVE OPPORTUNITY FOR BLUE RIDGE STUDENTS

Feb. 9, 2011 – Blue Ridge Job Corps Center Advanced Career Training students, Safoorah Mughal and Rebecca Smith, were recently selected by Virginia Highlands Community College President, Dr. Ron Proffitt, to represent Virginia Highlands Community College during a legislative visit to Richmond, VA.
Ms. Mughal and Ms. Smith, along with 2 other Virginia Highlands Community College students participated in legislative meetings in Richmond, VA, February 9-11, 2011.  The students travelled with Dr. Proffitt and met with Virginia Legislative members.  Included in the meetings were Senator William Wampler, Jr., Senator Phillip Puckett, Delegate Joe Johnson, Delegate Bill Carrico, Delegate Terry Kilgore and Chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, Dr. Glen DuBois.
During their visit, the students discussed the medical training credentials they received at Blue Ridge Job Corps Center, which enabled them to continue their education through the Virginia Community College System.  They also attended a special meeting at the Virginia House Gallery, where Safoorah and Rebecca were introduced as a Blue Ridge Job Corps graduates and Virginia Highlands Community College students.  It was a memorable experience for both students and they were both honored to be selected to make the visit.
