September 2011-
Over the last several months, Blue Ridge Job Corps Student Governement Association members and other BRJCC volunteers have worked in record heat tempuratures, rain and even fosty days to raise money for the American Cancer Association in an effort to fight breast cancer and other forms of cancer that attack millions of people every day.
The students raised the money by initiating campus car washes, casual day pay day and other various fund raisers (even collecting pennies). They also sold luminaries in memory of those who lost their fight again cancer and in honor of those who are cancer survivors. The glowing luminaries were place along the track at the local high school where the annual Relay for Life event took place. During the event, students walked the track in shifts for 24 hours to show support for the fight against cancer. Students also volunteered to register other teams who were participating and sell baked goods to continue fundraising efforts.
This a project that Blue Ridge Job Corps continue to be involved with on an annual basis, as the research continues to cure many forms of cancer.
