On October 5th, Blue Ridge Job Corps had 7 students and 2 staff volunteer at Special Games Day in Chilhowie, VA. Students Esperanza Williams, Jasmine Pollard, Jasmyn Gantt, Rachel McKoy, Rhaniyah Long Carter, Angel Hardy, and Ishawna Hargrove were kind enough to volunteer to assist with the annual event.
Special Games Day honors individuals with special needs in Smyth County schools as well as local organizations who support special needs individuals. Participants took part in a variety of games throughout the day, with Blue Ridge Job Corps students providing encouragement and support. They also helped with the clean-up at the end of the day. Career Transition Specialist Anna Goodpasture, who accompanied the students said, “I could not be prouder of our students for giving back to the community and how they carried themselves during Special Games Day.”
Ms. Goodpasture also stated that she received very positive feedback from parents and coaches as well as appreciation of our students’ time and efforts. “We look forward to participating again next year, and for many years to come.”
