Chelsi Covey grew up in Baltimore, MD, where she graduated from high school in 2009. Even before earning her high school diploma, she was already thinking about her next steps, but she was unsure about what career path she wanted to take. One of her friends had experience with Job Corps, and she encouraged her to apply.
During her time at Blue Ridge, Chelsi earned practically every certification that was available at the center. These certifications included Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, and Laboratory Assistant. She also served as the Vice President of the Student Government Association and was an active member of the volleyball and softball teams.
Since graduation from the program in 2011, Chelsi has worked as a medical assistant, and for the past five years, she has held that position with the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She works in the Dermatology department, and she aspired to continue her education to become a physician’s assistant.
Chelsi advises current students to seize the opportunity that Job Corps provides. “It is a life-changing experience,” she stated, “do not take it for granted.” She went on to say, “Blue Ridge is a wonderful facility, and I always highly recommend young people to give it a shot!”
