Dates enrolled: 7/30/2019 – 1/28/2022

Nicole Greenan grew up with plans to become a criminology journalist, and planned to attend college to earn a journalism degree. In her junior year of high school, however, those plans changed. “I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field,” Nicole explained. She told her mother about her change of heart, and they began looking for programs to give her the start she needed. Once her mother discovered Job Corps, Nicole was all in. “What caught my attention was the variety of health care trades offered at Blue Ridge Job Corps,” Nicole stated. “It amazed me how many potential career paths were right at my fingertips.
While at Blue Ridge, Nicole completed two trades: clinical medical assistant and certified nursing assistant. “It was difficult completing my training in the midst of COVID,” she stated, “but it was definitely worth it in the end.”
Upon completion, Nicole decided to remain in Southwest Virginia. She is currently employed full-time as a CNA at the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion, VA, and she plans to attend Wytheville Community College in the Fall. She intends to get a degree in psychology and criminology, with the ultimate goal of becoming a forensic nurse.
“I would advise any current or future students to make the most of their time in Job Corps,”said Nicole. “Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed and those who will push you to be your best.”
