Morgan Shore was a brand-new mother when she made the decision to apply to Blue Ridge Job Corps. As a single mother, she was unsure how she would attend school or even afford the tuition costs, until she heard about Job Corps. She had a passion for helping others, and wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, not to mention the program was tuition-free, so it was a great fit for her at that time. Morgan moved with a friend Mt. Airy, NC to Marion, VA, where she began her Job Corps journey.
During her time at Blue Ridge, Morgan completed Medical Administrative Assistant, and in less than a year from the time she applied to Job Corps, she had already completed the program and started her job. She worked for United Healthcare filing their Medicaid claims, and she works as a nursing assistant with Ballad Health on part-time basis. She will be continuing her education this fall as she was accepted into the LPN program at Smyth Career & Technology Center. Upon graduation, Morgan plans to return to Mt. Airy to work as a neonatal nurse. Her ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
“Don’t give up on your dreams, no matter what comes your way. When I had my daughter, I spent a long time thinking I may never have the career I wanted, but Job Corps provided a stepping stone, and through hard work and determination, I am well on my way.”
