Prior to Job Corps, Kyanna Stevens was working as a waitress, but she knew she wanted something more in life. “Job Corps was the perfect opportunity for me,” she explained. “It was a place where I could just focus on my studies, and the best part is that it was free!”
Kyanna earned her nursing assistant certification as well as her driver’s license while in the program. She then joined the Advanced Career Training program to pursue occupational therapy at Virginia Highlands Community College.
After class, she taught herself to do nails in the recreation center and has since opened a successful business, TGIP Nails. She leveraged that success with her CNA career to go back to school and further her education.
Kyanna now works full-time working as a pharmacy technician at CVS, making $17.00 an hour.
