Kamaron Jeffery graduated from Lee Davis High School in 2010, but beyond that, she stated that she felt lost. She was living with her grandmother, who tried her best to motivate Kamaron to pursue further education, but Kamaron admits she had no vision for her future. “I wanted to go to college,” she said, “but I did not want to accumulate a bunch of debt.” Fortunately, a friend told her about a free program called Job Corps, and after researching for herself, she decided to apply.
Kamaron arrived at Blue Ridge Job Corps in August 2013, and she quickly got to work in clinical medical assistant. In just a few months’ time, she had earned her CMA certification, as well as her phlebotomy technician credential.
Upon graduation, she moved back home and almost immediately found work as a phlebotomist at Bon Secours in Richmond, VA, and she’s been there for nearly 8 years. She welcomed her first child in 2020, and at that point, she decided to further her education. In June, 2022, she graduated from the LPN program at East Coast Polytechnic Institute (ECPI). As a part of this bridge program, her next step will be to complete the Registered Nursing Program.
“Nursing school was not easy for me,” Kamaron explained, “but I gave it everything I had.” For anyone in Job Corps or nursing school, she had one simple request: “PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP!”
