Emilie Konan moved to the United States from the Ivory Coast with plans to go to school for a career in the medical field. “My dad knew someone who had attended Job Corps, and after speaking with them, I felt it was a great opportunity to get started toward my goals,” Emilie stated.
In nearly two years at Blue Ridge Job Corps, Emilie earned certifications in Clinical Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, Patient Care Technician, and Medical Administrative Assistant, as well as CPR. She was also an active member of the Student Government Association.
Emilie has found work as a medical assistant at a variety of facilities since graduating in 2014. She’s gained experience in urgent care, gynecology, and primary care, and she’s currently employed at a gastroenterology called Capital Digestive Care in Germantown, Maryland. Her next steps are to return to school to pursue a Master’s degree in the nursing field.
Emilie expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to study and earn my certifications through Job Corps.” She advises current students to take as many certifications as they can to ensure there will always be a job available for them.
