“Until my generation, none of my family had ever gone to college,” Alexis Killion explained. She stated that her sister was the first to attend college for nursing, Alexis wanted to follow in her footsteps. She heard that Job Corps was a free program in which she could pursue medical certifications, so she decided to apply.
She earned a variety of certifications at Blue Ridge Job Corps, including patient care technician, HIPAA, and CPR. Alexis volunteered at the Atkins Food Pantry and served as a security cadet on center.
Since completing the program in April, Alexis began working full-time as a nursing assistant for Ballad Health. She is considering furthering her education by attending college, and is currently researching programs.
“To all Job Corps students, I would say to stay focused, and find a group of like-minded friends who will help push you towards your goals,” Alexis advised.
