Blue Ridge Job Corps Graduation

Blue Ridge Job Corps students, staff, and community members joined together to honor 16 program completers during the graduation ceremony on February 22, 2019.

A variety of supporters were in attendance, from elected officials, community leaders, family and friends, to recognize the tremendous accomplishments of these young ladies and the culmination of all of their hard work. These guests included Regional Director for Senator Mark Warner, Shane Clem; Field Representative for Congressman Morgan Griffith, Cody Mumpower; and Town of Marion Mayor David Helms.

“Oh the places you will go!” said Dr. Kimberly Williams, Principal of Marion Middle School, as she quoted Dr. Suess during her keynote address. A former administrator at Marion Elementary School, she applauded the student body for community service they provide in helping the youth in here in Marion. She motivated those in attendance by urging each person to live in the moment. “Do not live your life on social media comparing yourselves to other people,” she said. “Appreciate the special moments, such as today, and when you look back on your life, be proud of what you’ve accomplished.”

Mayor David Helms also spoke highly of the BRJC’s students and staff for the important role they play in the local community. “Blue Ridge Job Corps is a valuable asset in our town,” he said. “I would like to thank the families of these graduates for sharing them with us, and allowing them to be a part of this community.”

Student speakers were Concepcion Tello Frias and Beyonce Menefee. Beyonce expressed gratitude to a variety of staff members and classmates who assisted her along the way. Concepcion left students with the following quote: “I want you to leave here inspired to not only ACT differently, but to THINK differently.”

On behalf of everyone at Blue Ridge Job Corps we wish each and every one of our graduates the utmost success, and we are extremely proud of all that you have achieved.
