“Hacienda de Veteranos” is a residential home operated by Veterans Homestead Program. This home is located in Caguas, Puerto Rico. “Hacienda de Veteranos” provides rooms and services to 12-14 Veterans. The important focus of these programs is in restoring a sense of self-worth. This program provides the necessary support and services to honorably discharged veterans with disabilities or substance abuse issues. Their residents are encouraged to attend to as many of their own needs as possible and to help each other through the transition from homelessness to independent living.
As part of National Veterans Awareness Week, on November 4, 2011, a group of volunteers from Barranquitas Job Corps Academy( students and staff), together with volunteers from Home Depot, Puerto Rico National Guard, Yellow Ribbon Re-integration Program, and others participated in the restoration of “Hacienda de Veteranos” by doing landscaping, painting, carpentry, masonry, cleaning, among other things. Also, a breakfast donation was given by Barranquitas Job Corps to the volunteers on site.
Together we made “Hacienda de Veteranos” a better place for Veterans in need to get back to a better place.
On November 14, 2011, information pamphlets about: What is a Veteran? , were given out to the students and staff during lunch period.
