Congressman James Clyburn Tours Job Corps Center

Congressman James Clyburn toured and talked with students and staff on, Wednesday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bamberg Job Corps Center Staff and students are anxiously awaiting his arrival.  The Bamberg Job Corps students and staff have been anticipating two objectives on this day.  One is the arrival of United States Congressman James Clyburn, House Majority Whip.  The other is the opening of our new gymnasium.  Congressman Clyburn did the honor of cutting the ribbon.
The new gymnasium was dedicated to a former (deceased) Center Director, Varnessa Williams. Students and staff have been anticipating the grand opening of the new gymnasium for months.  The new gymnasium is more modern than the existing one.  The gymnasium houses a movie theater, canteen, pool & weight rooms, hair salon, and exercise rooms.
On November 16th, 2006, the House Democratic Caucus unanimously elected him to the third ranking position in the House, and he continues to serve in the post that is responsible for ensuring there are enough votes to pass the legislative agenda in the Congress. Congressman Clyburn is the first South Carolinian and second African American to serve as Majority Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives. Clyburn has served in other capacities of the government before he became a United States Representative.
James Clyburn was born on July 21, 1940, in Sumter, South Carolina, His father was a minister.  His mother was beautician. Clyburn attended South Carolina State College, one of the South’s premier historically black educational institutions, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962.
