This week Ms. Johnson the Indy Outreach & Admissions Coordinator, Ms. McCall the OA from American Business Corporation, Mr. Byrd, Business & Community Liaison Director for both centers, and Ms. Castillo, CNA Instructor for both centers, facilitated a presentation on the Job Corps program at the request of Arlington High School in Indianapolis. Their Social Worker, Ms. Henderson, wanted us to present the Job Corp program and the vocational training we provide, in order for their students to prepare for life after High School. The goal of the presentation was to provide information to the students on career pathways, training options, and the opportunities that many young people don’t get to hear about outside the typical College pathway discussion. The general population is slowly becoming more aware that careers in industry’s such as Manufacturing, Health Care, and Logistics, provide a good middle class life style and higher wages, and can be achieved by obtaining a short term certification or 2 year Associates Degree. This career path is more obtainable to some individuals because it does not require investing long term in a 4 year Degree, and the loan debt that comes with that choice. From the many questions that were asked, and pledges made to come to Job Corps, we have inspired some of the young people at Arlington High School to start thinking about Training for the Future!
