NATIONAL JOB SHADOW DAY – ATTERBURY SHADOWS FRANKLIN IN. CITY GOVERNMENT

Every Year the Department of Labor implements a National Job Shadow Day for students to get real-life, on the job, experiences in the communities near their Job Corps center. This event coincides with Ground Hog Day, (weather permitting), when the little critter looks for his shadow. For the past several years one of the highlights of this event has become our Student Government Association shadowing the City Government in Franklin Indiana. Each student spent a half day working in the various departments of the city. Franklin Mayor Joe McGuinness worked with the SGA President Darnell Singleton, and the rest of the SGA Committee worked with The Fire Dept., City Finance, The Police Chief, and City Court. We Then concluded the day with a Pizza lunch provided by the City Recreations Department. Mayor McGuinness covered the many duties and departments under his watch, and spoke on the various industries and employment opportunities for Atterbury students in their community. He even helped the SGA President prepare for the upcoming SGA Elections, and provided pointers on public speaking. Also a special treat, the Mayor gave SGA President Singleton a Pen set and Planner with the City of Franklin insignia! Thanks to The Mayor, Judge Van Valer, Police Chief Tim O’Sullivan, The Recreation Department, Fire Department, and Director of Communications, Angie Longtin, for setting it all up! It was a great day, the students were inspired by the city and the many, many, people who make it all work each day!
