March 24th, Atterbury Job Corps held its Quarterly Community Relations Council, a meeting designed as an ongoing effort to allow the center, and the surrounding communities to work together in establishing mutually beneficial short and long-term initiatives that foster open communication and exchange. This meeting helps the center to be responsive to the needs of community and employers, and enhance the quality of life for all of our students. It was a “Recording Breaking” event as nearly 50 representative from community organizations, business, and elected officials were in attendance. It was the largest gathering in at least 8 years. We had dignitaries like Mayor of Franklin Indiana, Joe McGuiness, District 41 Indiana State Senator Greg Walker, Melanie Douglas and Brandon Herget, Directors for US Senator Joe Donnelly offices, and Monica Kozlowski, Director with US Senator Dan Coats office. Also individuals representing The Department of Workforce Development and Work One offices, Jobs for America Graduates, Camp Atterbury, businesses like Phillips Company, Faurecia, Two Men and a Truck, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Union representatives, Indiana University/Purdue University at Columbus, and various staffing agencies. This meeting was a testament to the great strides the program has made in the last several years to actively engage the community in what Atterbury Job Corps does on a daily basis, (not just a quarterly effort). Those efforts would be meaningless if not for the dedication and drive of our students to acquire the skills and training to improve their lives and put their best foot forward in the communities we serve. They continue to meet our high expectations, and in turn take our program and profile higher in the community. Thanks to ALL of our Wonderful guests that braved the heavy downpour to learn more about Atterbury Job Corps!
