The Indiana Department of Corrections Training Manager, Edward Garcia and Officer Thomas Petro presented information in regards to working for the Department of Corrections to the security trade students. Mr. Garcia spoke about the 4 levels of different correctional facilities and the opportunities within each facility. He also spoke about the different facilities in the area and training officers receive once hired within the department. Initial training starts with a 3 day course and then onsite training courses before officers ever start. Officer Petro spoke on the benefits of working for DOC and that challenges officers face. Students asked a lot of questions in regards to employment opportunities and challenges within the role. Several students filled out their application directly after the presentation as they are excited to pursue employment within the Department of Corrections.
