On December 15, 2011, Honorable Gabriel Rodriguez Aguilo, Vice President of the House of Representatives , visited Arecibo Job Corps Center. This is part of the efforts we have to do from the Star Program Outreach. The Community Outreach requires to have visits on Center from members of the state assembly, senate, or house of representatives. Director and Senior Staff were personally inviting the community mayors and state representatives to visit and tour the Center during the Holidays to share with AJCC students in the scheduled activities.
During his visit at the Center, he spent time with about 25 students who represented all five Career Technical Trainings. Students expressed their interests and how Job Corps program is helping them to achieve their goals. Students also shared their personal success stories and how the program also helps them to address their personal barriers in order to be successful in their professional, as well as their personal life.
As part of the visit, the Vice-President and his staff visited the male residential dorms and the area where the female dorms is under construction. He committed to help with referrals for the new female dorm recruitment.
The Vice-President said that he believes in Job Corps and that he is thankful Job Corps involves students in the community projects services. Job Corps is an alternative to puertorican youth.
