ANACONDA, MT–Anaconda JCCCC cares about its natural surroundings on Center and beyond. The Junior Garden Club and the Green Committee are two separate options for students with an interest in environmental issues and health. Each group is guided by one staff and maintains ongoing participation by Anaconda JCCCC students.
On May 7, both groups came together to assist the local community with its annual Street Tree Project, where tree species, native to Anaconda, arrive on site to improve not only the aesthetics of the town but to enhance its health by increasing the number of oxygen-producing trees – greenifying Anaconda.
This year, Anaconda JCCCC was able to assist Anaconda Deer Lodge County Parks & Rec department at Washoe Park and swimming pool. Before planting any trees, County Extension personnel informed the students and staff on proper planting and pruning procedures.
Once the trees were safely in the ground at their new homes, the students and staff enjoyed lunch in the park before proceeding on to their afternoon activity at Sage Mountain Center (SMC), ” . . . an education and retreat center dedicated to promoting deeper awareness of oneself and one’s environment.”
Anaconda JCCCC students and staff heard from the education and demonstration facility that has the vision of promoting sustainable and holistic well being. SMC fosters:
