Anaconda Assists Area Chamber of Commerce in Martin Luther King, Junior’s Name on this Nationally-Designated Day of Service

Anaconda JCCCC Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) students and volunteers help Anaconda Chamber of Commerce Executive Director with some seasonal tasks that are just a bit too far beyond her reach.

YASC student, James Dickinson pictured on a ladder, and two YASC volunteer recruits, Chris Black and Trevin Morrison, remove holiday lights from the eaves of the Chamber building.

Once they finished taking down the lights, the same students started grounds clean-up.  They patrolled the perimeter and removed all garbage as well as the leaf litter that they raked and piled.

Kevin Milburn is pictured above, eagerly washing the Chamber windows as one contribution of service to the Anaconda community.  Milburn is set to finish the culinary arts program as he graduates at the end of the month.

Though his scheduled completion of the Job Corps program didn’t allow for his participation in the day of service as a YASC student or volunteer recruit, Milburn (pictured above as he cleans a merchandise cabinet) often demonstrates a great drive and desire to give back to the community that surrounds and so often supports the Anaconda JCCCC of which he is one appreciative and successful student.

The remaining photos show how Daniel Bowden and Christina Nikula, both YASC students, and Breyawna Taylor, Nikula’s YASC recruit, also helped polish the merchandise and furniture  inside the Chamber building.

All the YASC and Job Corps students were happy to be of service this day and more than likely into the future.  Their willingness and ability to come together as a team and accomplish tasks for someone else’s benefit has left each of them with a better understanding of just how small actions make big differences.  What may seem simple can also leave lasting effects on not only those whom they helped but they themselves are better individuals and community members.
