CTT Instructors celebrate the passing of the Labor Day holiday with all students and staff. Nothing screams summer coming to an end like a tasty frozen treat sponsored by Albuquerque Job Corps Center’s Career Technical Trades: Office Administration, Carpentry, Building Construction, Plumbing, Electrical, Cement Masonry and Welding – to include AT Welding. Each instructor participated in the event praising each student for their hard work. The CTT Manager, Ms. Renee Lowden, said “events like this praise all students for doing the right thing, going to class and for practicing Job Corps’ Career Success Standards”.

The way we prepare students for the workforce has changed during Job Corps’ 50 years. The growth of technology, its impact on education and the workplace, and the surge in various high-growth industries continuously create new opportunities to learn and grow. Job Corps is responding to this opportunity with the Career Success Standards (the Standards), a set of eight behavioral expectations in the areas of employability, social development, and independent living skills. The Career Success Standards are integrated throughout all aspects of the Job Corps program, including Academics, Career Technical and Residential Living. These Career Success Standards give students in Job Corps the foundation they need to be successful in each and every career field; military, college or career in the workforce. The Standards also give students an opportunity to express themselves in a positive way instead of bullying or violence which has been a focus of AJCC. Ms. Melodee Saiz, AJCC BCL/SGA Coordinator says, “It is imperative that we show our students how to have fun with each other, to learn each other differences, which is possible with laughter and fun during an ice cream social”.

Today, CTT instructors gave each student ice cream and tomorrow and every day after, they will give students the tools they need to complete their trade, earn their certification and begin to succeed in life.
