Over the past several years the students at the Albuquerque Job Corps Center have helped the city when they bring out their “Gigantes”, giant puppets that represent 18 of the 71 cultures in Albuquerque right now, not three as most people think. The heads are attached to “gigante” puppets which have to be maneuvered around as they parade through the streets. This year at the New Mexico Centennial Summerfest celebration, the students didn’t have to wear the puppets. In years past that could be a very arduous prospect since “even the slightest wind could knock you completely over,” said on of the AJCC students. This year they just had to push and pull the carts that the puppets were hanging on making it much easier to control as they paraded through the streets. The students did a good deed for the city and once again showed the public what a great job our students do in community service projects.
