Albuquerque Job Corps staff and students have been busy getting the word out about Job Corps during this time of budget cuts which could affect the program. Besides meeting with Governor Suzanna Martinez a few months ago, they had the opportunity again, to tout the program to the Governor on April 20, during the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce’s Education Excellence Annual Dinner at Embassy Suites Hotel featuring keynote speaker Governor Susana Martinez. Pictured with the Governor are Eric Sanchez; Deseray Martinez; Alfie Brown, the Governor, Jasmine Carter and Sonia Otero. The student were joined at the dinner by Dr. Emily Salazar, BCL, Stacey Cooley, CD, Mike Salazar, Deputy CD, Deb Endersbe, Social Development Director and Virginia Trujillo, OC/CTS Director but they are not pictured here.
Staff had the opportunity to see Senator Jeff Bingaman at the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of commerce Luncheon on April 26th. Virginia Trujillo, OA/CTS Director questioned the senator regarding Job Corps during the Q & A portion of the luncheon and Senator Bingaman praised the program and it successes. On June 2, the CTS department actually had a table for the pre luncheon networking session for Senator Tom Udall. Dr. Emily Salazar, BCL and Ms. Virginia Trujillo, OA/CTS Director were both able to “corner” the Senator before the luncheon, thank him for his support and express ours to him. We then got to take a picture with the Senator in front of our table. We were joined at our table by our new CTEC president Joy Smith. Joy’s advertising business has been a Work Based Learning Site for many many years and recently she hired another one of our studnents. She is working with us to get more employers invovled and getting more Work Based Learning sites.
