Albuqueque Job Corps celebrates Graduation with letters from NM Congressional Representatives and the Governor

The excitement was in the air and the energy was electric. The graduates were lined up outside the theater and the family, friends and staff were seated in the audience. Our two guests from our Senators’ offices were seated with the staff on stage, Gabe Long from Senator Jeff Bingaman’s office and Sara Cobb from Senator Udall’s office were there to read their letters of congratulations from their bosses. Dr. Salazar, our Business Community Liaison, had letters to read from Congressman Heinrich and Congressman Lujan. She also had a letter from Governor Susanna Martinez. The timing of the graduation prevented any of them from attending but their letters of encouragement and congratulations was heartfelt and inspiring.

Senator Udall said “you found a way of achieving your goal or you wouldn’t be sitting here today.”

Senator Bingaman said “We are better off as a nation because of the efforts of bright talented people like you.”

Congressman Lujan wrote “you have the benefits of this wonderful program behind you, but with that benefit comes with the responsibility to make a difference in your community.

Congressman Heinrich remarked “The Job Corps has had a positive impact on our local economy by training our workforce for the promising jobs of tomorrow.”

Governor Martinez offered “the Albuquerque Job Corps have always provided support to individuals looking to improve their quality of life and achieve successful careers.”

The students were graduating from the Albuquerque Job Corps Center and SIATech, the on site Charter school. Mike Arvizu was chosen as the Valedictorian and the rest of the students were presented with awards, and given their diplomas and certificates of completion. Stacey Cooley, Center Director, pronounced them as graduates at the end of the ceremony and the tassels were switches and hats thrown in the air. All then retired to the front of the Hispanic Foundation Disney building where cake and punch was served.
