Twenty-two years ago Glenn Evans was a student at the Alaska Job Corps. This afternoon he was a mentor at the Alaska Job Corps for 75 students in the hard hat trades.
Glenn is a successful business man, working for Columbia Hydronics Company. He started his career in the Facility Maintenance trade, studied Refrigeration in Job Corps Advanced Career Training program, and moved up and up the ladder. Now he travels the world in business development and represents the latest technology for Samsung.
He came back to Job Corps to encourage students to take full advantage of the Job Corps program. He told the Electrical, Carpentry and Building construction technology students, “I never thought I would do any of this.” He recounts that all he knew was that he wanted a career. And he didn’t ever want to become a man who walks away from his family. “So I worked at everything I could at Job Corps. Without a doubt, I’m 100% proof of Job Corps’ success.”
Glenn gave students tips about technology and interviews. He clearly gave them the following formula for success: Stay away from the drama. Never stop learning. Join professional networks. Find a mentor. Be present. Be enthusiastic. And put in your time. Glenn is living proof that “Careers Begin Here” at Job Corps.
Alaska Job Corps is operated by Chugach Government solutions as a part of their educational effort to provide training, success and safety to young adults in the National Job Corps program.
