Every month Alaska Job Corps Certified Nursing Assistants travel to the Mat Su Regional Medical Center to work with the elders at the monthly Senior Circle presentations. Students take blood pressures and work with the elders as requested. The elders are interested in the students’ stories and ask lots of questions about where the students are from and how they are doing in their career training. This is a real opportunity to improve communication skills for the students along with improving their medical skills and gaining important experience. The Medical Center is enthusiastic about having Job Corps trainees on site and this will likely expand in the future.
