Business Brings Excel to Life for Accounting Students

Excel is just software– until you see it in action. Twelve Alaska Job Corps Accounting students did just that–last week at the Matanuska Electric Association’s main headquarters. This was a hands on opportunity and students heard directly from employees in the general ledger section, payroll section, accounts payable section and invoicing. Listening to staff comments from the experienced personnel allowed the students to envision a day when they too would be employed by a wonderful and supportive company like MEA. Deanna Hracha, Comptroller, organized the tour and experience in conjunction with Accounting Instructor Edna DeVries. The Alaska Job Corps accounting students said that everyone was positive and helpful during their tour. They observed the graciousness of all employees in customer service, dispatch, billing, and purchasing. But apparently it was in the Accounting section, where they felt the magic. The Accounting office was the crystallization of their studies into the practicality of real employment.
