Alaska Job Corps Students Job Shadow Professionals

There is no more valuable nor effective “hands-on” training than job shadowing.  And that is why, on February 2, National Groundhog Job Shadow Day, sixty-four Alaska Job Corps students participated as “job shadows” at a number of professional sites in South Central Alaska.

Chugach Alaska Corporation and Matanuska Electric Association opened their doors for this job training exercise, in conjunction with the Alaska Job Corps Center.  Other employers who offered training were Point Woronzoff Water Treatment plant, Eagle River Water Treatment plant, Arctic Valley Water Treatment plant, Children’s Lunch Box, State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Beans Cafe, NANA Corporation, Palmer Pioneer Home, Adult Day Services and Pizza Gallery.

Students selected for this shadow experience were prepped prior to the event.  Employability skill training is a part of why the Job Corps program works as well as it does.
