Alaska Job Corps Removes Obstacles For Employment

Kayce Frantzich was almost 20 years old and had no GED, High school diploma, no certificates and little work experience.  This was early 2002 and Frantzich had hit a major roadblock of opportunity.  She found out about Alaska  Job Corps Program, enrolled and was accepted in Data Entry and Office Assistant trade.  Shy by nature and soft-spoken, Frantzich struggled with public speaking.  “My instructor helped me gain confidence to speak in public.  She helped me master all the skills and perfect a resume and cover letter,” says Frantzich.  “I also earned all my credentials, including my GED, MOS Word and MOS Excell.”

Perhaps most importantly Frantzich learned to both  like and respect herself.  Her self-esteem blossomed and she eventually became a leader on campus plus she was voted in as Women’s Corp President.  “This kind of leadership helped me grow tremendously along with the support of a caring and giving staff.”  Frantzich graduated and immediately was hired by a large company and excelled in her work.

Many years later Frantzich is definitely a success.  Not only is she a professional working woman, with a good job, but she has a great family and a positive, balanced life.   She says that “Job Corps is a great program for anyone who wants to be helped.  I learned how to lead my life and I learned how to help others improve and succeed,” says Frantzich, with a smile.  She looks  totally approachable and friendly but she also stands tall, representative of having  a strong work ethic.

Kayce Frantzich  is very proud now to have returned to Job Corps as an essential staff member in the Records Administration Department.  “I love seeing the  new Job Corps students.   I try to help them feel more comfortable with this change they are embracing.”  Frantzich’s boss, Sharon Virg-In adds, “ Kayce Frantzich is excellent, punctual, intelligent and helpful.  You could not ask for a better employee.”  And Frantzich enjoys working at the “place which changed my life.”
