Alaska Job Corps Center participated in twelve separate efforts to Make A Difference. Outlined below, the events included 323 individual efforts from students and staff.
- Students packed and delivered food for the poor at the Mother Lawrence Foundation.
- Students prepared food for senior citizens at the Grand Opening of the Mat Su Senior Center.
- Students helped take blood pressures at a Senior Health Fair.
- Students attended the Alaska Federation of Natives annual conference and then cleaned up a city park afterwards.
- Students and staff helped with a large community anti-substance abuse event.
- Students all participated in a Make A Difference letter writing event.
- Carpentry class spent a full week building a 42 x 60 quonset hut style building, supported by 7 metal trusses for the Community Recycle and Training Park.
- Students assisted with office work associated with a Senior Health Fair.
- Human Services students worked at the State of Alaska Courthouse.
- Human Services students prepared for the largest fundraising event for needy children.
- Culinary students prepared food for the regional Vocational Rehab Office.
- Culinary students also prepared nutritious snacks for school children and instructed them on the value of healthy treats.
All in all, there were 323 individuals participating in the Make A Difference event. And since public service is a function of Alaska Job Corps Center training, the service efforts will continue next week, next month and next year. It just never stops. And the Alaska Job Corps Center is happy to do it.
