Alaska Job Corps Culinary students with cakes prepared for regional event

Alaska Job Corps students were part of the ribbon cutting of  the new $6.5 million dollar regional recycling facility in the Matanuska Susitna Borough of Alaska.  Alaska Job Corps Culinary Arts students decorated, prepared and served the four large sheet cakes for the opening festivities.  Hundreds of people participated in this ceremonial event.   The Alaska Job Corps “Green Team”,  headed by instructor Antoinette Rusted, was present with her students wearing their “Earth Day Every Day” t- shirts.  This student group is responsible for the weekly recycle effort that has helped the Alaska Job Corps Center become 100% green.  Working with the Valley Community for Recycling Solutions, the Regional Resource Recovery and Training Park will be a job corps work base location and a continual public service destination for the students at Alaska Job Corps.   The new building has 23,600 square feet of space and was designed and constructed to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold level.
