Tony Devos, 44 YEARS at Tongue Point Job Corps!!!

In 1978, Tony Devos graduated Clatsop Community College on a Friday and started work at Tongue Point Job Corps on Monday in the accounting department. He has worked in various accounting positions over his 44 years at TPJCC. His title now is Staff Accountant.
Back in 1978, there were no computers when he began working and when they did get a computer the whole accounting department had to share one computer, and you couldn’t print and work on the computer at the same time. To print reports, the accounting department had to go to the Clatsop County Courthouse basement. Wow how things have changed.
We are so lucky to have such a devoted, dedicated staff member amongst our ranks here at Tongue Point Job Corp Center! It is really great working with Tony who has such a vast wealth of knowledge and background here in the Accounting Department. The history of our local Job Corps is so interesting and Tony has seen such a large part of it. Tony maintains a positive work environment and is super helpful to all Staff and Students, assisting with their payroll needs and questions. Tony is fun to work with and a wealth of knowledge. We love listening to his stories and good memories he shares from here at the Center.

Tony does not punch a time clock but you can count on his timing, it is like he has an internal clock that sets him at a consistent pace throughout every day. You can always count on his timing. “At 11:30 a.m., it’s as though he floats up from his chair and down to his car, goes to lunch, and comes back at the same time every day. I always laughed about it when I worked in the Records Dept. because I could predict the moment he’d walk through a door based on the time.” Amanda Lamb

Tony has “rock solid,” integral knowledge of the Accounting procedures and processes. Tony is extremely helpful to the AP Staff and myself as we negotiate the ebb and flow of paperwork in the accounting circle of paperwork life. We are very grateful for his support help.” Joyce Allison

“He often reminisces about the good old days when the center would hold an annual food fair that celebrated heritage, music, and special food dishes of other cultures. Tony is always willing to dress-up and participate in department costume contests, like last year when he was a member of the ghostbusters. Tony is a team-player, he’s consistent, dedicated, meticulous, and a very valuable asset to Tongue Point Job Corps Center.” Tonya Haataja

Tony has been the type of employee all employers want.
