Cleveland Job Corps Center Building Construction Technology trade helped fellow neighbor, Coit Road Farmers Market, with much-needed structural repairs on June 8, 2016. Home Builders Institute (HBI) Building Construction Technology Instructor, Michael Yager and students removed and replaced an exterior wall in addition to installing a door. The partnership between the Farmers Market and the Center allows students to receive hands-on practice outside of the classroom. Additionally, it helps develop their civic pride and teaches them the importance of giving back to the community.
Andre Martin, Goodwill Industries Business Development Specialist and Cleveland Job Corps Center Community Relations Council Member, linked the two neighbors. “It was a great experience watching the students learn on the job,” stated Coit Road Farmers Market Operator, Joe Jerdonek. “Instructor, Mr. Yager demonstrated great leadership skills.” Jerdonek also expressed that he looks forward to extending the partnership to allow the students to take part in more neighborhood community service projects throughout the summer. According to its website, the Coit Road Farmers Market has been an anchor on Cleveland’s east side since 1932. Their mission is to provide access to affordable, locally grown farm fresh products to the residents of Greater Cleveland. The East Cleveland Farmers Market Preservation Society (ECFM) is an all-volunteer 501 c (3) non-profit organization that operates the market year-round.
