Ground Hog Shadow Day

Ground Hog Shadow Day

On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, the students teamed up with the staff to participate in Ground Hog Shadow Day. Mr. Padu, our Work Based Learning Coordinator and Mr. English, Deputy Center Director, generated and supervised what soon became a successful event.

Several DVJCC students were randomly chosen to “shadow” staff for a few hours during the training day. This event was designed for our students to give them the opportunity to get hands-on work experience by participating in daily routines and department job responsibilities that are completed each day at DVJCC. A few of the students were shadows at our local organizations in Sullivan County including Achieve Rehabilitation Center in Liberty with Jane Gonzalez, Director of Therapeutic Recreation & Volunteer Services, and Action Towards Independence in Monticello with Deborah Worden, Assistant Executive Director.

Our staff feel this experience is a great way for our prosperous students to acquire job related trade and academic skills that we offer and what it can do to assist them in their future once they enter the workforce.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all students, staff and local volunteers who participated in this event. We are grateful to be surrounded by such a wonderful community and we look forward to working with many local organizations.
